Here's to the new year!

One of my goals for the year is to write at least 1 hour a day and to get my ears pierced. There's other goals but I can't be arsed to write them up - so I'll just go back to working on my Charlie the unicorn fic.

Finished Doctor Who Flux and... honestly I was already mad about Timeless Child and how it felt like a big fuck you to old school Doctor Who fans, but this series was just straight up draining. I had a damn headache after watching that shit - and any other time I would have given it a light 'pass' due to the fact that they had their episodes cut down from 10 & 8 to 6 which would explain whatever the fuck that last episode was; but I've been giving this god forsaken series a pass since mid-Moffat's run (with the exception of Capaldi's final series, which was one of the ones I actually liked) and I've been pushing myself through the awful time I've been having just watching it... and I think I'm done. I'm done with this Doctor - and the fact that the Doctor 'became a woman' wasn't what bothered me, but even if you got the best actor on the entire planet to play this role - it doesn't change that the stories have been terrible or at best forgettable.

But Jodie Whittaker is just crap as the doctor, and it sucks that the first female doctor is played by her. She's been so bland and the only thing that's been motivating me to give her a chance throughout the series was that people hated on her for being the first female doctor. So I kept pushing on and on - but Timeless Child killed it when the idiot in charge decided that the doctor needed to have Jason Bourne's back story by being a tortured 'oh noes they erased my past and made me do the bad things' and be a magical chosen one who started the existence of the Timelords. So the Master got mad at her for REASONS (if anything he should have been the Timeless Child considering the tortured past, being used by the timelords and living way beyond the limitations of regeneration) and now we're suppose to care about this lost past of the Doctor.

And that just me bitching about Timeless Child. The Flux series was a waste of time in the most infuriating way - mostly because there were actually so many interesting characters that got absolutely wasted on this shitty story line. I can't even be arsed to look up the names of the characters I liked; but one annoying thing was that barely any of them had a single episode dedicated to them because it all got slopped together on top of one convoluted story upon another to the point I found it harder to care.
Even characters I didn't care about like the Doctor's adopted mother was barely there long enough before she got killed off and... what was the point? was I suppose to feel sad? Was the doctor suppose to feel sad? Nah doesn't matter lets go on to the next pointless thing.

Even when there were gags I would have laugh at in a better story line, it didn't really sink in before it blurred into the next thing. Characters I was interested in got screwed over because the main evil gemstone people, who were talking like that one dude in Jupiter Ascending, were apparently more important than anyone else.
The companions were better characters that I like a whole lot more than the Doctor - god Yaz didn't deserve this crappy run. She has so much back story that I doubt will actually get any decent exploration for and none of the companions have really bonded with the Doctor since the majority of their character growth happens without her. Fuck even Moffat of all people did a better job at giving a sliver of a reason for the companions to get along with the Doctor. In this run the companions were just plopped together and yep now they're family because they say so (it has all the vibes of going to a family event with over-bearing family members who you haven't seen in ten years - entering your personal space and constantly hug you while breathing their bad breath in your face and trying to pair you up with divorced-twice Jeremy because "You're not getting any younger/beggers can't be choosers" who is licking the icing off the cupcakes and putting them back onto the plates - but they're family so you stick it through regardless).

A last straw was had and it was this series. I'll watch the episode where I assume 13 will regenerate and we get a new Doctor - even if RTD's return turns out to be shit, I'm just ready for a different type of headache and at least it'll come from an actual Doctor Who fan.

A continuation of my favourite fics in the soulmates trope - this time mainly featuring Virgil being wary of the situation with soulmates in various forms \o/

- Two Monsters, A Partner, and A Lot Of Doubt
An AU where humans are aware of the existence of fairies and faes, Virgil x Logan x Remus x Janus. Virgil grows up sheltered by his parents but meets and falls in love with Logan who isn't his soulmate but doesn't want to live life without him, not even for his soulmates - who he discovers are faes when he runs into them while visiting a friend of Logan's.

- Soulsick
A two-part series of LAMP fics, where soulmates are biologically drawn to each other once they meet and get sick if they stay apart for too long. Virgil hates the idea of not being able to leave once meeting your soulmate and fears being hated in the long run - so after meeting Patton and Roman, while finding out that he has one more soulmate to meet, Virgil decides to run away and begin the process of withdrawal in hopes of getting over the soul sickness. However his soulmates are determined to reach out to him.

- A Missing Piece
A LAMP college AU fic - Growing up with parents who ended up hating each other despite being soulmates made Virgil wary of soulmates as a whole to a point where he didn't want any let alone the three marks to indicate all the soulmates he had. However fate lead him to sharing a room mate with one of his soulmates who had already met the rest of their soulmates.

-The Garden in his Skin
A DRLAMP fic, where soulmates touch and flower markings appear on their skin. Virgil hates the idea of soulmates after seeing his parents fall apart and resolved to never meet them if he can help it - which he can't. And every time he meets a soulmate he runs away from them not wanting to have anything further to do with them. [I didn't actually like the ending to this fic, but I absolutely love the idea and all the encounters Virgil has with each soulmate]

- Love Runs Its Course
Virgil x Janus soul timer AU fic. Virgil hates the idea of soulmates but accidentally runs into his at a coffee shop.

- I Want to Care About You
Virgil x Patton x Janus. A kind-of fantasy set-in-a-ye-old-time setting where following a colourful light will lead you to your soulmate. Virgil is just fine without a soulmate, but everyone else around him thinks its unnatural to not seek out your soulmate. So after being fired from his job for being without a soulmate he ends up traveling with his cat in order to find his soulmate. [This fic is way too short and I absolutely love the world building as well as how the characters are written in this. Definitely one of my top favourites].

- When Words Fail
A LAMP college AU fic where soulmates can contact each other by writing on their skin. Virgil is abandoned by his parents because of being one of the rare people who has more than one soulmate which is considered as taboo. So Virgil ends up doing all he can to stay out of contact with his soulmates while reading their communication with each other - until of course the the day they do find each other.
[As much fun as it is to read fics where soulmates instantly fall in love with each other once they meet - I really like how this fic points out that it takes more work than just being soulmates to actually get to know each other. In addition they point out the idea of being platonic soulmates with other characters like character!Thomas and character!Joan, which I think is a nice bonus.]

-Soul Ink
A short series of LAMP college AU where soulmates can communicate by writing on the skin. Virgil is mistreated growing up for having three soulmates instead of just one by his parents and classmates, and even though he had started writing to his soulmates, his parents make sure that he stops writing to his soulmates and focus on school work instead. When he leaves for college

Haha my first post of 2021 :D

It's been awful and there's no way I'm going to be able to readjust when the lockdown is officially over.

But with that aside, I've been obsessing over Sanders Sides and living in the soulmates tag on AO3.

- Pieces Verse - a series of fics set in an AU (kind of a ye-old setting & modern-ish hybrid). I'm absolutely obsessed and currently reading the recently finished Janus/Remus one called Chipped Tea Sets, which introduces trans, asexual and aromantic spectrums for some of the characters.

-From Time Immemorial - a vampire soulmate LAMP fic following Logan. Soulmates are shown through different periods representatives of timers to count down when soulmates will meet each other. Logan is confused at seeing that it would be an impossibly long time in a human's lifespan before he would meet his soulmates - until he is bitten by a vampire one night.

- Eyes Are Windows to the Soul(mates) - a DLAMP fic (because heck yeah polyships) where your eye colour changes when meeting soulmates.

-I Know You (Once Upon a Dream) - A Roman x Virgil fic where they meet in their dreams.

-To Love a Liar (I'll See You in My Dreams) - An angsty Janus-centric DLAMP fic; meeting their soulmates in dreams in the forms of animals and can only understand each other when they meet in real life.

-Shared Souls - A Roman centric fic where soulmates can contact each other by writing on their skin. Roman finds out that he and his twin Remus have the same soulmates and feels that his brother deserves them more than him.

-Touch Me Gently - A DLAMP fic following Roman. In this AU soulmarks are shown on the skin to indicate where soulmates will have first physical contact with each other - because of where the soulmarks are shown, Roman's parents are concerned about the potential harm his soulmates could bring.

-Waiting For Love - a Remus x Logan fic where soulmates can contact each other by writing on their skin. It's about navigating an age gap between them until they meet when they are both of age. It's an emotional ride with dark themes of sexual child abuse from Remus's childhood that isn't graphic in itself, but still causes PTSD for Remus and affects his relationship with Logan later on before they meet.
I felt that the topic in itself is handled really well in addition to seeing Remus going into recovery and just the communication between him and Logan got me teary eyed a few times. The fic alternates POVs between Remus and Logan and has a sequel focusing on Roman x Virgil (but I haven't gotten round to reading it yet and its a WIP).

- Destined - a Janus centric fic written before his name reveal, so he goes by Damien here instead. A bit on the ooc side and despite it being a DLAMP fic, it largely focuses on the relationship between him and Virgil - closely followed by his relationship with Roman. But with that being said I have found myself coming back to re-read this fic again and again.
Here 'Damien' has survived a rough childhood and hates the idea of soulmates; which in this AU is shown through various soulmate clues - the first being writing on the skin to contact other soulmates. However, Damien chooses not to write at all while his other soulmates contact each other through their writings and are unaware of Damien - who chooses to date someone who isn't his soulmate (but ultimately becomes abusive to Damien later in their relationship). Because of not contacting his soulmates nor meeting them in person, this triggers another soulmate clue on Damien's birthday, where soulmates can 'see' through one of the soulmates eyes and can speak to them briefly.

-Smile (Though Your Heart is Aching) - A Patton centric LAMP fic where soulmates can communicate by writing on their skin (yes I know this is a popular trope within this trope - still love it lol). Patton struggles with his mental health when his soulmates meet up in person well before he can, as well as after meeting with his soulmates.

-Of Castles and Storm Clouds - a Roman x Virgil fic; where Roman finds out that his soulmate has died before meeting them as shown through his changed soulmark. He goes to a support group and meets Virgil.

- A Favorite Star in the Heavens - a LAMP fic where people have soulmarks, but it is uncommon for a person to have more than one and is usually frown down upon. The chapter alternate between the four characters as they all eventually meet up with each other while working through their own issues.

-In Knots - A LAMP fic following Patton; where soulmates are connected by the red strings of fate and only ever seen by a rare few who are believed to not have soulmates themselves. Patton tries to play matchmaker without revealing that he can see the strings himself, before having to move away when people find out.

-Objections, Your Honor - a Lawyers AU that explores the ideal of non-romantic soulmates between Logan and Janus.

-Your Heart(s) Will Guide You Home - technically a LAMP fic, but focuses on Emile x Remy (ok Emile is Thomas Sanders' Cartoon Therapy character and Remy is the fandom's name for the Sleep character in Thomas' sketches - but they usually end up getting featured in a LOT of Sanders Sides fics, including the few I've mentioned above).
Emile and Remy are guardian angels who are assigned to watch over Patton, Virgil, Logan and Roman's fates - dealing with death and the afterlife.

-You Make One Mistake - tw past Self-harm; Remus x Logan - when everyone turns 20, their soulmate's name appears on their wrist and are given a choice to bond or let their names fade away. Remus misunderstands Logan's response.

-Seeing Red - Logan x Roman; a College AU where people are unable to see one color until they make contact with their soulmate. Logan and Roman have not been getting along for a whole semester to the point where they can barely be in the same room without arguing. A party changes that forever. I like how it handles a relationship that goes from disliking each other  to trying to get to know each other while keeping in mind the past treatments between them.

There's a lot more to include - but most of them follow the theme of Virgil being wary about soulmates, so I'm gonna write a separate post dedicated to that when I can as a sort of part 2.

So I found another cute fan video, but on Good Omens because I'm weak for animatics and I'm still recovering from the last chapter of Sally Face.
